Google Cast Offer Gets You 3 Months of YouTube Red for 0 99 Which Means Google Play Music Too

Google Cast Offer Gets You 3 Months of YouTube Red for 0 99 Which Means Google Play Music Too

YouTube Red, the ad-free version of YouTube that also includes a subscription to Google Play Music at a price of $9.99 per month, can be had as a Google Cast (Chromecast) offer for just $0.99 for three months. At less than a dollar, I’d say signing up is probably worth the hassle if it gets you the next few months of ad-free YouTube streaming with a bonus of the Google Play Music collection on the side.

If you own a Cast-eligible device, you can check to see if the offer is available to you by hitting up the Google Cast Offers page, linked below. Once redirected, the site will check all of your devices to see if the YouTube Red can be yours. If it can be, the click of a “redeem” button followed by a short sign-up process over at YouTube should be all that is required.

Enjoy.

Instagram Gets New Icon Simpler Layout in Latest Update

Instagram Gets New Icon Simpler Layout in Latest Update

Instagram’s non-flat, retro camera icon that seems about six years beyond its prime, has been replaced this morning by a new app icon and a refreshed design. That’s right, we have a new Instagram icon!

The new icon is an updated take on the original icon, only in rainbow gradient form. Honestly, it’s pretty bad! But hey, I’m no designer and I think (Maybe. Hopefully. Please do me right.) I’ll be able to live with whatever most icon designs interpret this as through their own creations. (Stock?) Rainbow gradient, folks, rainbow gradient.

As for the app refresh, the UI elements are now mostly black and white, likely as a way to put the focus on your colorful photos. We saw this UI in testing on a handful of devices over the past couple of weeks, but it’s now official as the Instagram layout. There are also smaller buttons along the bottom of the app for navigating, again, to get you fully immersed in the app and photos. The location of UI elements all remain the same, though.

Original DROID Turbo Gets an Update That Isn’t Marshmallow

Original DROID Turbo Gets an Update That Isn’t Marshmallow

Verizon’s original DROID Turbo is receiving an update today that includes the “latest” Android security patches and call performance improvements. It is not an update to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, in case you were wondering.

I mention that because this phone is supposedly still getting the update to Android M, at least, that’s what Motorola’s support page for it says. Well, they aren’t 100% behind it with an accompanying note about it being upgraded “pending partner support.” In other words, if Verizon doesn’t want to help, they aren’t about to care either. That may sound exceptionally harsh and critical, but the Turbo not getting Marshmallow ever wouldn’t shock anyone who owns a DROID MAXX, Ultra, or Mini.

We’ll let you know if anything changes. For now, grab that new update and at least secure yourselves.

T Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S5 Gets Marshmallow Update

T Mobile’s Samsung Galaxy S5 Gets Marshmallow Update

Yesterday, T-Mobile began pushing an update of Android 6.0 to the…wait for it…Samsung Galaxy S5. Yeah, that old bird. Sweet, right?

The update is showing up as either software version G900T3UVU1GPE1 or G900TUVU1GPE1, depending on, something. Honestly, I have no idea why T-Mobile has two different variants of the Galaxy S5 cruising around that need different software versions. You want to complain about fragmentation…

Each update weighs in at right around 1GB and appears to require a WiFi connection or installation via Samsung Smart Switch for PCs.

Go get it!

Android N Preview 3 Gets Semi Stable “Beta” Release Available Now

Android N Preview 3 Gets Semi Stable “Beta” Release Available Now

The massive Google I/O 2016 keynote just wrapped and that means it’s time to start talking about what’s new. Since you are all obsessed with new versions of Android, we thought we should first start with the fact that Android N Developer Preview 3 is now available. Google is also saying that this version should be stable enough for you to use on a daily device. That’s huge news!

The update is rolling out as version NPD35K and is already popping up on devices who are a part of the Android Beta program. In fact, during the show, I was able to pull the update onto my Nexus 6. So if you are enrolled, be sure to check in Settings>About.

This new version includes Android VR, along with a sustained performance mode and a bunch of other behind-the-scenes items. The full release notes can be found here.

If you don’t want to go that route, you can grab the factory images here or the OTA .zip files here.
