DEAL Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen is 199 Today at eBay 50 Off

DEAL Nest Thermostat 3rd Gen is 199 Today at eBay 50 Off

The newest version of the Nest Thermostat (that would be the 3rd gen model) has dropped to just $199.99 today at eBay in a daily deal, a $50 discount. Not only is that a hell of a deal on a smart home product that I personally cannot live without, but it’s worth noting that Nest products are almost never discounted. To see the newest Nest at $50 off is worth running to.

As a recap, the Nest Thermostat wants to automate your home and its temperature. It can be controlled via app, but it also learns your patterns and activities to know when to adjust for the perfect cooling or heating. It works with IFTTT, Amazon Echo, and only gets smarter and more useful by the week. Nest even tries to save you money each month on your power bill, though I can’t say that over the years I have noticed a major impact. I’ll let others who own one weigh in on that front.

Again, $50 is a discount we rarely see, so if a smart home thermostat is something you have been considering, now is the time to jump on it.

Report Google’s Amazon Echo Like Device is Codenamed Chirp Possible Google I O Tease to Take Place

Report Google’s Amazon Echo Like Device is Codenamed Chirp Possible Google I O Tease to Take Place

Back in late March, a report surfaced that stated Google was working on an Amazon Echo-like device. Not many details were known at the time, but really, how much info does one need? The Amazon Echo is a pretty straightforward device. You speak to it, it listens. It can play music from Amazon Prime Music, can create shopping lists for you, and even works with Nest, if you own a smart thermostat. Now, picture all of that stuff, but built by Google for use with Google’s multitude of services.

According to sources of re/code, the device’s internal codename at Google is Chirp. Working like Google Now does on your smartphone, a user could say, “OK, Google” and the device will await your command.

We expect Chirp would do virtually everything Echo can do, such as play music from Play Music, read books aloud from Play Books, create calendar events that are synced with your Google Calendar app, and give you a breakdown of top news stories from sites you frequent. It is also reported that Chirp will look similar to an OnHub WiFi router.

Sadly, the same sources claim that Chirp is not expected to be launched during this year’s Google I/O, which takes place next week in Mountain View, CA. However, it is expected that the device will be teased on stage during the keynote, with launch set for later this year.

Is Chirp shaping up to be something you want inside of your home?

Google’s Gboard is an Awesome New Keyboard for iOS That’s Probably Coming to Android

Google’s Gboard is an Awesome New Keyboard for iOS That’s Probably Coming to Android

Brace yourselves, because you are about to see something really cool that you are going to want on your phone today, only it’s not coming today and is an iOS exclusive at the moment. Don’t ask me why, just know that Google likes to torture us and this is the latest example.

Say hello, to Gboard for iOS

What is Gboard? Well, you could watch the video and it’ll tell you. If you don’t have time for videos, let me try to explain. Gboard is a new keyboard for iOS that works like any keyboard when it comes to the typing part, or gesture swiping of words. Where it really shines is in this addition of a Google button in its top left corner. That Google button allows you to perform Google searches from within the keyboard and your current app, so that you can then include those Google searches in conversations, without ever leaving your current app. That make any sense?

Think of it like this. You are in Hangouts or WhatsApp or iMessage or Gmail or any other app, and you are talking to someone about a lunch spot or a new movie trailer or you want to share your upcoming flight or hotel reservation details. You can search for those items within the keyboard by tapping the Google button, and then tap on those search results to get them to appear in the conversation you are having or email you are typing.

gboard_gif_regularSearch

Mind blown? Yeah, mine too.

You can also search for emoji, share GIFs, and almost any other search item that Google can come up with. And then you can include them in your conversations.

About that iOS exclusivity. Over on the Gboard listing at Product Hunt, a number of people asked Google why this wasn’t on Android and Bri Connelly, who works on “product @ Google,” said that they are “Working on the best way to bring the same functionality to Android right now!” So yeah, it may come to Android at some point! We just don’t know when that will be.

That’s Gboard and we all want it on Android yesterday.

Twitter is Testing an Automatic Night Mode UI

Twitter is Testing an Automatic Night Mode UI

Apparently in the very early stages of testing, Twitter is working to bring an automatic Night Mode to the official Android application. Available only to a select number of alpha testers, the app’s UI will automatically change to a darker appearance, which should be easier on the eyes at night time. As it is right now, the standard white UI is the only option available to users of the Twitter app. Once available for all, the UI should consist primarily of a dark blue background with white text.

Not only is Twitter testing a Night Mode, but different button placements, too. According to testers and reported by 9to5 Google, Twitter is also experimenting with hamburger slide-out menus, overflow buttons, as well as floating action buttons (FAB) for the composing of new tweets.

As previously mentioned, this testing is happening among a small group of people. Anyone hoping to take part will need the alpha version of Twitter. Sign-ups for that are available here, however, acceptance rate is very low. Beta sign-ups are also available here, with acceptance rate sitting at 100%.

Google Assistant is a More Personalized Google Search Experience

Google Assistant is a More Personalized Google Search Experience

Google is essentially rebranding Google Now and the overall Google Search experience for individual users, announcing Google Assistant at this year’s Google I/O developer conference. Unlike the 1-way conversations we have with Google right now, Assistant is a 2-way conversation between you and Google. Contextually aware, Assistant builds on the progress Google has already made to make Search smarter.

As an example for Assistant, a user could search for SF Giants, then be met with all of the information they need regarding that baseball team. Once complete, suggestions will be shown for the SF Giants, such as roster, ticket sales, and more. From here, Assistant knows that you want information pertaining to the SF Giants, so it will recommend other detailed Giants information from the web, YouTube, and other sources. The same can be done for a movie that is in theaters, or other events taking place.

As previously announced, Assistant won’t only be for mobile devices. It is also being built into Google Home, meaning you will have your personalized Google Assistant wherever you are. According to Google, “The assistant is an ambient experience that will work seamlessly across devices and contexts. So you can summon Google’s help no matter where you are or what the context. It builds on all our years of investment in deeply understanding users’ questions.”

Since Google Assistant is merely an update to an already existing platform, don’t look for any new “Assistant” app to hit Google Play. Instead, look for it in Google Home, as well as Google’s new social apps like Allo and Duo. Those apps release this summer. You can also expect Assistant to hit the existing Google app sometime in the future.

Google I O 2016 is This Week! What Should We Expect

Google I O 2016 is This Week! What Should We Expect

Assuming you are any sort of Android or Google nerd, you know that Google I/O starts later this week – Wednesday, to be exact. At Google I/O, which is Google’s yearly developer conference, we get to find out just what Google has been working on and what their plans are for the near and distant future. They almost always show off the newest version of Android (even if it is only in preview form), share refreshed design guidelines, and talk about their different product focuses (from Auto to Chrome and Chromebooks, to Google Photos, Play, and even pet projects, like the crazy stuff from Google’s ATAP team).

We typically go into I/O thinking we have a good vision for what Google will talk about, but then they almost always toss in some surprises even if they do layout a preview of sorts through each year’s schedule that hits the I/O website well ahead of the conference…err “festival.” This year, though, Google is changing locations and taking the show closer to home, so the whole thing is very much up in the air. Sure, we know VR will be a big part of it, as will Android Pay, and Android N, but what else?

Let’s talk about it and make some dumb predictions.

google io 2015 third floor android

New Location, Lots of Streaming

For those planning to attend (and yes, we’ll be there), part of the appeal to this year’s I/O will be the location change to Mountain View, right across the street from Google’s campus at the Shoreline Amphitheater. Yep, this is an outdoor “festival,” not just a developer conference. Google will do a lot of work from the main stage of the amphitheater, including the live-streamed keynote, but they’ll have another dozen or so stages setup for smaller sessions that developers can actually learn something from.

There will be tents and areas to relax, I would imagine, but the weather is looking like it could be quite lovely once the festival starts. What does that mean? Burned nerds, everywhere. Seriously, Google better have barrels of sunscreen on hand or it could get ugly in a hurry. Remember, we’re almost all basement-dwelling, never-see-the-sunlight keyboard warriors around these Android parts, and this pearly white flesh isn’t equipped for sun rays.

Thankfully, for those not in attendance or those who want to save their skin, a majority of the show will be live-streamed, plus Google will record almost every session and post it later to YouTube for viewing. You can find all of the live and post-event video at the Google Developers channel.

Android VR and Project Tango

A couple of years back, Google introduced Cardboard, a $5-10 apparatus that instantly brought a cheap virtual reality (VR) experience to your life, by using your phone. We may not have predicted it at the time, but this was the first step towards Google getting itself heavily involved in VR. While we haven’t seen much happen since that initial introduction, Google’s behind-the-scenes work appears to have reached the point where they are ready to share big news.

At this week’s festival, Google has at least 11 sessions setup to talk about VR on some level, not including whatever they announce during the keynote. Recent rumors (and a quick appearance in the Android developer console) suggest that Google will introduce Android VR, a system-level VR experience that will be accompanied by a much higher-end headset, similar to Samsung’s Gear VR, only “better.”

Don’t be shocked if they announce gaming and app partnerships surrounding VR announcements, a platform for more hardware or other hardware partners (think 3rd party headsets, like what they did with Cardboard), and VR cinematic experiences.

Not only that, but Google has big plans for Project Tango that will co-exist in this VR world, at least, that’s what the sessions are leading us to believe. Project Tango, for those not familiar, is a technology that started out in tablets but will move to consumer phones within the next month, that allows you to in real-time, map rooms and render them in 3D. A pairing with Android VR could take a Tango phone, slot it into the Android VR headset, and let you game or digitally experience a real-world environment in real-time. Think about that for a second. Sure, the processing power needed to accomplish this seems a bit much for a phone, but Google could at least get the idea started with some simple applications.

Project Tango could also be used for helping you navigate retail environments or airports or cities and possibly ramp up Google Maps to another, ridiculously awesome level.

Prediction: So we’re expecting major VR announcements during the keynote, which takes place Wednesday morning at 10AM Pacific. We are guessing that Google will announce that Android VR has been built into Android N Developer Preview 3 and that we’ll be able to take some of it for a spin using a VR headset of some time.

Android N, the Next Preview

We have already been introduced to Android N and two developer previews, so it’s not like Android N is going to surprise us at Google I/O this week. With that said, the timing is right for Google to release Developer Preview 3 to the world and bake in anything new that was absent from the first two rounds. As I just mentioned, that could mean Android VR, but it could also mean a more polished multi-window experience too.

There are sessions laid out for helping developers improve battery life and performance, high-performance audio, notifications, ART, multi-window, UI and layouts, etc. As of right now, nothing is standing out as something huge, outside of a potential VR introduction.

Prediction:  Google isn’t going to tell us what Android N stands for yet – I think they wait until later.

The Google Amazon Echo

A report last week suggested that Google has an Amazon Echo-like product in the works that will take over your home in a way that Alexa and the Echo already have. That report also said that we shouldn’t expect Google to launch it at Google I/O, but that doesn’t mean Google won’t preview it, the technology behind it, or at least make it known.

Currently codenamed “Chirp,” I’m just wondering why Google needs a separate product and doesn’t instead just update their Google OnHub routers to do what Amazon’s Echo does. I wrote up a piece last week talking about the possibilities of OnHub and the secrecy that has surrounded them since launching in the summer of last year. They just seem so ready for their moment in the spotlight.

Prediction: Will Google show us this Echo product? Honestly, I kind of doubt it. That report feels like Google reached out “off the record” to set us up to not be disappointed by the product not making an appearance and that they’ll instead show something off down the road, maybe even at this year’s Nexus event, if there is one.

Google’s Next Messaging Client

Back at MWC in February, Google announced that it was teaming up with a number of industry players to create a rich communication service (RCS) messenger that should become a standard on all Android phones. Think of it in a way like iMessage in that all Android phones would have access to it and be able to use new advanced messaging capabilities, instead of having to choose Hangouts or WhatsApp or some other service.

Google hasn’t said when this app could launch, but Google I/O is a good place to start talking more about it. I don’t know that they will, especially with no sessions currently scheduled to focus on RCS messaging.

Prediction: No death to Hangouts just yet.

Android Wear

There are at least five Android Wear sessions planned, so expect a big update to Android Wear in the near future. Google says that it wants to talk about plans for the future (a big update), work on getting developers to build more Wear apps and watch faces, and how to make sure they all connect to devices seamlessly.

Prediction: HTC watch appearance, anyone?

Android Pay

I know that Android Pay isn’t typically thought of as a major headlining topic, but Google seems poised for major announcements here. There are a number of Android Pay sessions, including one called “Android Pay everywhere: New developments.” I think it’s a safe bet to say that Google is going to announce a whole bunch of new Android Pay countries, including the UK.

There is also a session where Google will explain new ways for retailers to get their loyalty cards in Pay, as well as ways for banks to get onboard with Android Pay “through their mobile banking apps.”

Prediction: I wish Google would announce that it has licensed Samsung Pay’s MST technology for making payments at all credit card machines, but they probably won’t. The “everywhere” in that session probably just refers to a global rollout of Pay.

google io 2015 session

Nest

There has been some drama recently involving Google’s Nest, the smart home product maker that Google acquired a couple of years back, so we were curious to know if they would have any sort of presence at I/O. The drama mostly involves turmoil on the inside between employees and leaders, but it may also have to do with the fact that Nest hasn’t delivered a new product in quite some time, other than the Nest Cam, which was really just a rebranded Dropcam HD.

As of right now, Nest has a single session on the final afternoon at “Tables 3&4” that will last an hour. That’s right, Google isn’t even giving Nest a stage to talk about anything, they are just getting a couple of tables to maybe, potentially, talk about Works with Nest. You have to imagine that at 2PM on Friday, the last day of the festival, that all of seven developers will still be around to attend the chat. It’s like Nest has been put in timeout.

Prediction: Yikes.

Other Nuggets

Google has sessions for Android Auto, Games, Android TV and Chromecast, and Google Play as well, but they just don’t seem like they’ll be the major focuses this year. I could be way off on that, but each has a limited number of sessions.

There is one wild card, and that’s whether or not Google will go live with Google Play store access to Chromebooks and ChromeOS. We saw hints of it being on the verge of happening not long ago and I/O would be the perfect place to make it official, but again, there aren’t really any hints of that happening in the current I/O schedule. Things could change, obviously, over the next day or two.

Wrap-up

And that’s it for now! Google I/O officially kicks off with a keynote on Wednesday morning at 10AM Pacific. The opening keynote, which is always filled with more goodies than our brains can handle, lasts for two hours. After that, it’s onto sessions and us trying our best to share everything new with you that we can.

Both Tim and I will be in Mountain View for the fun, so be sure to follow us everywhere, including Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram!

Moto is Teasing June 9 Announcement With a Throwback to the RAZR

Moto is Teasing June 9 Announcement With a Throwback to the RAZR

Moto and Lenovo are expected to show off new Moto phones on June 9 at Lenovo Tech World, one of which is rumored to be insanely thin at just 5.2mm thick. In the lead up to that event, Moto’s Twitter account has started throwing it back to previous phones of theirs that were not only very thin, but iconic.

In the video included here, you’ll see Moto take us back to the days of the original RAZR flip phone, a phone that we probably all have fond memories of, though this isn’t the first time that Moto(rola) has leaned on the successes of the RAZR for the launch of a new phone.

Are they hinting at something here? The RAZR was indeed very thin for its time, just like the new Moto Z is supposed to be. Maybe the Z in RAZR is a hint at the Z in Moto Z too? Or maybe this is just Moto doing a #TBT on a Thursday to help us remember that this company, before it was owned by a Chinese computer company who can’t figure out what to do with it, was pretty awesome.

Thoughts?

Cheers Felipe and Marco!

Hey Remember Google Now on Tap Oh Well Here is a Video on How It Works

Maybe Google read the comments of this thread of ours or maybe they plan to give it another go at Google I/O next week, but the latest video from the Google YouTube channel is all about Google Now on Tap and how it works. Did you forget about it or have you yet to find an occasion where you needed it? This video could help give you some motivation.

Google Spaces is a New Group Sharing App With Built In Chrome Search and YouTube

Google Spaces is a New Group Sharing App With Built In Chrome Search and YouTube

To kick off Monday, Google went ahead and gave us a new app to try out, called Google Spaces. As the name sort of suggests, it’s a bit of group messaging or sharing app that revolves around specific “spaces” or topics that you’d like to discuss with friends or family or co-workers. Google is calling it a “better group sharing experience,” so again, the goal is to get you sharing information with others about topics. Did we need an app like this? I don’t know!

With Spaces, which we are still waiting to go live on Android, iOS, and Chrome, Google has built-in Search, YouTube, and Chrome to allow you to find items (like videos or web pages) to be shared and then quickly searched through to find other or older items too, perhaps mentioned topics deep in the past of a Space.

In the screenshots currently available from Google, they are suggesting spaces for topics like group trips to Paris, study sessions with fellow students, a comic book club, kitchen remodels, a space for college buddies to bro-out in, or parenting tips. It’s not a difficult idea to understand, right? You have this app for sharing topics with others who have interest in a topic.

google spaces1

google spaces2

If you are attending Google I/O, Google says to install Spaces because they plan to create a space for each I/O session so that “developers can connect with each other and Googlers around topics” at the conference.

Once Spaces goes live, we’ll be sure to share those direct links to Android and iOS. For now, feel free to cruise around the Chrome landing page and preview some of the fun.

Google is Letting You Help Name Android N

What’s Android N going to be called? You know the question has be burning through your brain since the first preview arrived a couple of months ago. Google has teased options. We have taken guesses. But we still don’t know, even after today’s I/O keynote.

Well, Google is going to let you do something about it. During today’s keynote, Google announced that they are letting the people help decide what Android N should be called because they are struggling (or just want to include you in the fun). Seriously, they even have a website already setup for you to start submitting options.

Google Confirms That It is Making a VR Headset for Daydream

Google Confirms That It is Making a VR Headset for Daydream

This morning, during the “VR at Google” session here at Google I/O, Google’s VP of virtual reality, Clay Bavor, confirmed that the company is making its own VR headset. He didn’t provide specifics (like name or release date), only that they are indeed working on a product that is outside of the reference design they built for other manufacturers to use.

During the session, Google also showed off the Daydream controller and how it will work in a virtual environment. Unlike Samsung’s Gear VR that uses a pad on the side of the head unit for interacting, Google’s vision is of separate headset and handheld motion controller.

In the video below, you can see just how that action might play out.

For reference, here is an image of the reference design that Google was talking about. You can see the simple headset design next to a controller that looks a lot like something that might be built for Android TV. Or maybe you are seeing a lot of the Gear VR here, which would also make sense.

daydream android vr

I’m certainly excited about Google’s VR work, but can’t help but feel a little underwhelmed at the moment. You can only get so hyped for a product that doesn’t actually exist yet. And honestly, that’s sort of the take away at the moment from this year’s I/O – future products that we are dying to play with but can’t.

Here is the Batman Galaxy S7 Edge and OMG It’s Hot

Here is the Batman Galaxy S7 Edge and OMG It’s Hot

The Batman themed Galaxy S7 Edge that Samsung teased earlier in the day is now official and fully unveiled. As we mentioned earlier, the partnership is based on the game Injustice: Gods Among Us, but from this “unboxing” video, it’s clear that Samsung and DC spared no expense.

In the clip, we get to see a Bat symbol emblazoned box with both Galaxy S7 Edge and “Injustice” branding. Inside, Samsung is showing off a gold plated Bat symbol accessory that matches the branding on the back of the gold and black phone, specially themed Gear VR unit, and matching case. There are headphones in there as well, though they aren’t shown outside of their box.

As predicted, parts of the UI have been themed to play into the collaboration, including skinned icons, lock screen, always-on display, and dialer. TouchWiz has themes these days, so it’s more than likely just a special edition Batman theme.

Yeah, it’s hot and we need one now.

AT T Galaxy S6 is Getting Its Marshmallow Update

AT T Galaxy S6 is Getting Its Marshmallow Update

Galaxy S6 owners who are stuck with AT&T, your Marshmallow update is incoming. In fact, you may be able to pull it right now. A number of owners of the phone over at reddit have been downloading and updates their Galaxy S6s all morning, so you may want to take a look.

The update supposedly weighs in at about 1.5GB and software version “PD6.” I wish I could tell you more, but AT&T has all but abandoned their individual device support pages these days and has yet to update with Marshmallow info for the Galaxy S6. Feel free to keep checking here for the latest.

To check for the update, which should be Android 6.0.1, head into Settings>About device>Software update>Check for updates.

Anyone seeing it?

Lenovo Admits That It’s Acquisition of Motorola is Not Meeting Expectations

Lenovo Admits That It’s Acquisition of Motorola is Not Meeting Expectations

On the phone side of things, Lenovo is struggling at the moment, if you didn’t know. Once a top three smartphone maker, the company is slipping as its acquisition of Motorola, which they thought would propel them towards Samsung and Apple, not away, is not paying off. In fact, during their Q4 earnings release this morning, Lenovo was quite frank in admitting that the acquisition is not meeting expectations.

For the quarter, Lenovo shipped around 10.9 million phones globally, 5 million of which came from the Motorola side of the company. To put some context around those numbers, know that for the quarter, in China (the home country of Lenovo), smartphone shipments declined 85%. Yikes! They also said that “product transition” in North America was “not successful.”

According to Lenovo, they have “learned a great deal” since they completed their acquisition of Motorola and are looking to apply those learnings as quickly as possible. For one, they now have two co-presidents, with one focusing on China and the other on the rest of the world. While the US doesn’t have its own specific leader, Lenovo is going to focus on getting its US “business back on track,” likely with the upcoming Moto Z.

If you ask anyone around these parts, I don’t know that any of us are shocked to learn that Lenovo and Motorola together are struggling. The Moto X Pure Edition, while a fine phone, hasn’t seen much support in recent months and other than being discounted every few weeks, doesn’t even seem like a phone Motorola cares to talk much about. Couple that with the disaster of a customer service department and you don’t exactly have the most winning formula for retaining customers to drive sales. They also have a DROID line, but it’s also been well documented how unimportant it feels to both Motorola and Verizon. Oh, and Rick Osterloh, the man in charge of Motorola for the past few years, took off for Google to lead a new hardware team.

It’s hard to see much of a light at the end of this tunnel for Moto and Lenovo. Maybe a modular phone will be the ticket?

Google Home is Official Powered by Google Assistant Available Later This Year

Google Home is Official Powered by Google Assistant Available Later This Year

During the keynote of Google I/O this morning, Google Home was made official. Set to be a real competitor to the Amazon Echo, Google Home is powered by Google Assistant, the new AI-based software that helps users complete tasks.

Much like Echo, a user will speak to Google Home, which will get it to relay information from the web, playback music thanks to a built-in speaker, tracks your packages, make and change dining reservations, and even go over calendar events you have linked to your Google account.

Additionally, Google Home can be linked to other smart features in your home, such as speakers, HDTVs, thermostats, and more.

Google has opened up a sign-up of sorts, which is really just an email list to be informed of when Home is available. You can sign-up here. At this time, Google has not provided an official release date or pricing.

What’s your take on Home? Will it dominate Amazon Echo?

Verizon’s Galaxy S5 is Getting Marshmallow Today

Verizon’s Galaxy S5 is Getting Marshmallow Today

Late Friday afternoon, Verizon updated its Galaxy S5 software support page with today’s date, a sign that an update would be arriving. We figured it might be a major update to Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow, since the T-Mobile variant had recently received a similar honor, but because they left out details on the page, we weren’t sure and held back on sharing the news. Then, this morning, they included update details, confirming our suspicions – this is Marshmallow.

According to Verizon, Galaxy S5 owners will see software version VRU2DPD1 and Android version MMB29M (Android 6.0.1). The update, with the jump to Marshmallow, includes Google Now on Tap, Doze, better application permission controls, WiFi Calling, a newish TouchWiz skins with new icons, and Ultra High Quality Audio.

To see all of the new details, hit up that source link below.

To grab the updated, head into Settings>About phone>Software updates>Check for new updates.

LG Action CAM is World’s First Action Camera With LTE

LG Action CAM is World’s First Action Camera With LTE

LG has a new “Friend” device in its ecosystem, this time being the world’s first action camera capable of connecting to a 4G LTE network. Called the Action CAM, this camera is made for those who seek adventure, featuring a 12.3MP sensor capable of shooting at 60fps in FHD and 30fps in UHD. More notably, the LTE connectivity is not tethered by a smartphone, meaning that when you are out on the track recording your awesome motorcycle videos, they can be simultaneously streamed to YouTube Live or whichever service livestreaming is supported.

At this time, LG has not confirmed which carriers will be available at launch, but our hope is to see it available on as many US carriers as possible (no LTE bands were provided in the press release). During livestreaming, a feed of HD at 30fps is the max resolution and frame rate that the device can output, being powered by 2GB of RAM and an unknown processor. Furthermore, sometime after launch, remote access will also be available, allowing owners to set up the Action CAM as a CCTV. Whether you are on 3G or LTE, you can watch whatever your camera is capturing, perfect for monitoring your home while you are away. Lastly, the camera features an IP67 rating, which means you can go surfing with it or into your backyard pool.

LG has not yet provided an official launch date for the Action CAM. We also don’t know a price, but our guess is that it won’t be cheap. Maybe $399?

Below is the complete list of specifications.

Specifications

  • Camera: 1/2.3-inch 12.3MP / 1.55 x 1.55?pixels
  • Connectivity: LTE / 3G / Wi-Fi 802.11 b, g, n / USB Type-C 2.0 / Bluetooth 4.1
  • Video Recording: UHD 30fps / FHD 60fps / HD 120fps
  • Video Live Streaming: HD 30fps
  • Memory: 2GB RAM / 4GB ROM (OS only) / microSD (up to 2TB)
  • Size: 35 x 35 x 77.9mm
  • Weight: 95g
  • Battery: 1,400mAh
  • Others: IP67 / GPS / Accelerometer / Gyroscope
  • Color: Light Gray

This is the OnePlus 3 a Mix of HTC One M9 and iPhone

This is the OnePlus 3 a Mix of HTC One M9 and iPhone

Thanks to Evan Blass, this is likely our first good look at the upcoming OnePlus 3 from OnePlus. As you will see, the phone appears to be the perfect blending of a One M9 from HTC and an iPhone from Apple. It’s not that this is a bad thing, or that we’re calling OnePlus out, it’s just happens to be the best way to describe what the phone looks like, in our opinion.

According to Evan, at least one of the specs we reported on yesterday in our rumor roundup is correct, which is the AMOLED display. The only other spec listed by Evan is a 3,000mAh battery, which does not align with the previously reported 3,500mAh battery size. Other specs we are expecting, thanks to previous leaks, are a Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB and 6GB RAM models, 16MP rear-facing camera, and Android 6.0.1.

Looking over this render, I would say that the OnePlus 3 looks pretty good. On the lefthand side, we have the notification toggle, just as it is on the OnePlus 2. There is a front-facing fingerprint reader, volume rocker on the left side, power button on the right side, USB Type-C, single bottom-facing speaker, and 3.5mm headphone jack on the bottom of the phone.

We still don’t have a date from OnePlus for when to expect a launch, but we’re getting close.

Thoughts on the render?
